United Nations Federal Credit Union publishes 2023 Impact Report

Details Progress on Strategic Actions and Commitments Driving Sustainability

Press Release
04 June 2024

The United Nations Federal Credit Union (UNFCU) announced the publication of its 2023 Impact Report, highlighting its continued commitment to sustainability, philanthropy, volunteerism and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) achievements.

UNFCU demonstrated strategic actions to advance 14 of 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These underscored progress on the Credit Union’s 2025 Five-Year Goals and programs creating opportunities for employees and communities to thrive.

2023 Impact Report highlights:

  • Maintained climate neutrality since 2016, even as staff and membership grew
  • Achieved 100% parity of women and men in managerial roles as defined in our annual assessment to the Board of Directors
  • Benefitted 70,000+ total women and youth through UNFCU Foundation grants since 2015, the organization’s inception
  • Volunteered more than 6,500 staff hours in our local communities on three continents
  • Maintained active status for the 13th year in the UN Global Compact, the world’s largest sustainability initiative
  • Joined the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF), an industry-led standard used by financial institutions to assess and disclose Greenhouse Gas emissions associated with financial activities
  • Continued to align our investment policies with our values by prohibiting investments in the exploration, production, and wholesale distribution of fossil fuels

“It was a year of innovation and action, whether through our supplier-diversity initiatives, staff-led CSR Champions programs, or our ongoing commitment to impactful grants,” said Yma Gordon, First Vice President, Global Inclusion & Impact at UNFCU, and the Executive Director of the UNFCU Foundation. “Purposeful partnerships and collaborations furthered our mission to create the greatest positive impact.”

The UNFCU 2023 Impact Report addressed seven materiality topics with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) disclosures.

“Our Impact Report reflects our values and our journey towards sustainable practices,” said Pamela Agnone, Executive Vice President of UNFCU and Executive Sponsor of the UNFCU Global Sustainability Program. “As we progress with expanded data gathering and analysis, we will identify opportunities to drive our sustainability agenda forward, amplify SDG actions, and increase our positive impact.”

The Impact Report details UNFCU’s sustainability performance across operationally-controlled facilities covering the fiscal year period from 1 January to 31 December 2023. In close collaboration with Greenhouse Gas Accounting specialists, the Credit Union tracked emissions using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol standard. For more information on how UNFCU aligns with reference to GRI Standards and key indicators demonstrating sustainability achievements, please review the report’s Appendix.
